Lincoln J. Painter bought this brush from Cleve McIver's store on Front St. He got the brush when he bought a suit in either 1930 or 1931 also from McIver's store. The unpainted wooden clothes brush reads "The Store of Quality and Service. R.C. McIver, Sioux Lookout Clothing Store, Sioux Lookout, ONT" embossed on the top. The brush has an outer ring of black bristles with brown bristles inside.

In 1914 Cleve McIver and Ed Cole purchased a store in Sioux Lookout which was initially called "McIvor and Cole," until the partnership dissolved in 1925 and McIver went into business on his own. The original store was a two-storey wooden building with both families living upstairs above the store. The store originally sold groceries but eventually branched out to sell menswear and ladies apparel.
